Juvenile Law

The approach of Indiana juvenile courts is different than that of Indiana adult criminal courts. The emphasis of an adult criminal court is focused more on punishment; Indiana juvenile courts focus on rehabilitating the individual juvenile. Except in extremely rare cases, a juvenile is not entitled to a jury trial. It is the juvenile judge that hears and weighs the evidence, determines guilt, if any, and decides the sentence.

Our office is experienced with handling juvenile law. We know how important it is to investigate the charges and try to resolve the matter prior to trial. We give the juvenile the best defense and negotiate with the prosecutor only if it benefits our client. We know that a juvenile’s record can be used against him or her in the future if the juvenile commits a criminal offense as an adult.

We are ready to help the juvenile and the parents understand the juvenile law system and provide the best defense or resolution to the matter.
